Afternoon,

My dad recently bought a 2016 V40 2.0 T2, he has always tried his best to service his cars himself and this car is 10 years newer than his V70. Haynes don't have a manual for this or it seems most newer Volvos, and the last version of VIDA being 2014D I'm guessing will cover the model to a degree but won't allow diagnostics and may not even cover the newer 2.0 T2 engine.

Does anyone have any recommendations on workshop manuals, or advice on if VIDA 2014D covers the newer V40 well? I currently run a 2011 version on a old laptop so familiar with some of the issues with getting vida working.

I have a 2017 V40 T2. VIDA 2014D is about the best you are going to get as workshop information, although it won't connect to the car. It covers most of the car, but not the T2 VEA engine or the M76 gearbox (although your dad's car probably has the M66 box).

However, if you select the 2015 model year in VIDA you can choose a V40 with the VEA T5 engine (B4202T11) which is similar in many respects as far as basic service procedures are concerned. That car can only be selected with the auo gearbox, but by picking different variants to look at you will find information on the M66 manual box as well.

So it's really a matter of being a bit creative in finding the information, but there's more than enough there for standard servicing, including timing belt procedures.

Car Scanner app for android has a plugin for Volvo VEA engines and can read Volvo specific fault codes. Vdash also handles basic diagnostics and is free for personal use, although it requires a DiCE unit to connect to the car. I have a Chinese clone from eBay which works fine and Vdash will automatically install the latest drivers the first time you connect through it.

Thanks for the reply, will go for the 2014D version of vida and see how we get on. Will look into the vdash app as well, got a Chinese dice which works with the 2011 version of vida so hopefully that would work for diagnostics.
