2016 V40 D3 Smoke
Hi All,
I have a Dec 2016 V40 D3. It has just over 50k miles. I have noticed quite a bit of dark grey smoke out the back when i accelerate in 4th gear. Not so much of an issue in other gears. When the car is started in the morning, and I am standing behind it, the fumes don't too smell too good. I just haven't noticed that with any diesel I have had previously. I have given it a couple of doses of Redex diesel, as well as an 'Italian tune-up', but it hasn't helped. It has been serviced (but not by a dealer), and has never been modified/tuned or mapped. It doesn't seem to be going through oil. Has anyone any ideas or advice? Thanks! |

Modern diesels can smell very peculiar when cold and the catalyst isn't up to working temperature, so I wouldn't be too concerned about that. Maybe compare it to idling when the engine is fully up to temperature after a run?
It takes only minute quantities of oil to cause smoke under hard acceleration, and as I think your car has an electronic dipstick you would need to monitor over several thousand miles to be sure.
