Well that was short lived.
Had a few days motoring and this morning she has started making a funny noise.
Is it possible for the timing to slip? All seems as it should be, all belts etc in place and not slack.

Is it best I leave this mechanical business to people who actually know what they are doing and go clean some bricks?

What sort of funny noise?

Both ends of the camshaft are only tapers so can be off time and it makes a massive difference to how these engines run!

Who set the cam timing up when you swapped the head?

Local mobile mechanic did all the tech stuff. Timing etc.
Quite a clatter coming from there now. Not sure what to do next really. No one locally seems to have a clue.

Have you tried talking to the mechanic who timed it originally? Did he use the Volvo software to get the timing bang on, not sure of it’s exact name.

Haven't been able to get hold of him.
He didn't use any software, just a funny looking gun.

I think it’s called VOL-FCR
Should be used to get the fuel pump timing spot on

If it is really clattery, like really bad tappet sounding noise (but not from the tappets) it will be the cam timing has gone wrong!

It needs the cam set in relation to the crank shaft before you mess about with the pump timing...

I guess the question is why it has gone wrong, cam timing shouldn't just go out unless something is wrong or something wasn't tight in the first place.

Where exactly are you?

I am in Christchurch. A small hovel between Ely and March.

You have described the noise perfectly.
