Locking a 855R

Sometimes when I go and lock the car with the remote the lights will flash etc but the doors will not lock, (will still lock with the key) - always when you are out and never at home - press the remote again, lights flash and the red light on the dash stays on, as it should, but the rear hatch lock will still be locked, put key in and can unlock and lock all the door ok, the remote will now work untill next time, so its the rear lock, what do I do now please before I take the rear cover off and mess all the locks up.
The remote has been cleaned and had a new set of batterys fitted

Are you saying the tailgate does not lock / unlock sometimes or is it all the doors?

If it's just the tailgate, suspect a broken wire in the loom by the hindge inside the car. This is where the loom flexes and eventually one or more wires break inside the insulation.

If I recall correctly the LED in the dash should flash about once per second if the alarm is set OK on continuously means there's a problem.

Sorry if I did not make myself clear - yes the problem appears to be in the tailgate - you go and try to lock the doors and they wont lock , but the tailgate is locked, unlock the tailgate and all seems to be ok untill next time, the LED light does seem to work as the way you described.
Will have to have a look at the weekend and will get back to you.

Any more info would be appreciated

I think you have a fault in the wiring inside the car by the LH hinge.

Sometimes you can prove it by locking / unlocking from the remote with the tailgate in various positions between open and closed.

A Haynes manual will give details of the removal of trim in the load area to get to the wiring, you need to start by removing the trim in the roof area that contains the light.

As regards the alarm and LED response the details are in the handbook I don't have one of these cars or the handbook anymore so someone else may be able to help. There is a method of testing the alarm inputs using a test mode I'd have to look it up if you need it.
My guess would be that one of the door switches, maybe the tailgate one, has stuck.

Does the load area light go out OK when you shut the tailgate?

I am happy with the way the LED alarm light works - it happened again today went to lock the car tailgate locked but not the doors, alarm set - press remote alarm off, tailgate unlocked - (doors still in unlocked position) open tailgate then shut tailgate remote works ok on all 5 doors - till next time

The load area light works fine.
