I've given up, it shouldn't be difficult to hand over some money.

Smile James 300 series

James you asked me to be more specific regarding some rules of BKV no longer aplicable before i came back with my answer i had to be absolutely sure so here goes,,..Age and Mileage allowances were taken off a few years ago and the the Judges under instructions to take both these into account when scoreing vechicles.
So anyone with a well looked after car and low miles isnt taken into account ,,also i dont beleive pre mot cars should be shown ,one could have a car delivered on a Saturday abd win his event on the Sunday, regards sunnyvic VOC Disabled register

So a vehicle with higher mileage will score less than a car with low mileage? I'm gonna be in negative points at this rate, 159000 miles by the time of the BKV!!

Having never had my car judged before what are the judges actually looking for while judging? How are the cars judged? (Not causing trouble just wondering!)

All 700s are rare, especially early cars - James, let's hope your personal preferences are not evident when judging.
Don't worry, I don't need a lecture on the relative merits of 700s. A friend has an '82 760 (one of the first 50 imported), and it looks like I'm about to buy a 740 Turbo, and I'm well aware that neither is exactly a common car.

I'm half tempted to treat this affront on my professionalism as a judge (tongue FIRMLY in cheeky now!) with the contempt it deserves (), but for the sake of clarity, I meant that I might have spent more time looking at the 780 because I don't get the chance very often, whereas there's been a 740 sat in the garage for the past 18 months. I would, naturally, judge both as fairly as I could.

Villan - no, the idea was to be more generous with higher mileage cars. I didn't actually know that had been scrapped, and continued to be a little more lenient with a higher mileage example.

Vic - regarding the mileage allowance, I was once made a fool of on this front. A few years ago, a club member turned up to a volvo300mania event in a genuinely showroom-condition 340. It was the first time I'd come across a concours enthusiast, and I started rambling about how all this was well and good, but I use my car every day, and it has done a fair few miles, etc...until he pointed out that his was also used every day, and the mileage was significantly higher. In other words, I was just being lazy.

People who fail to enter into the spirit of the event (such as the guy a few years ago who entered a 740 into working cars (10k miles / year and above) after it had just been resprayed, having completed its 10k earlier in the year) will be scowled at...but honestly, I think it's better if everyone just relaxes a little, enjoys looking at the cars, and no-one takes it too seriously. This is supposed to be a hobby, and hobbies are supposed to be fun!

Usually, there's a roughly 50/50 split between cars which are in the running for a prize, and those which aren't. It can be extremely difficult to pick between the best cars, and I'm unashamed to say that it undoubtedly comes down to personal preference.

If you want to properly put the cat among to pigeons, how about the scoring bias - 20% each for "bodywork" (i.e. panelwork), "trim" (bumpers, plastics, wheels, etc), "underbonnet", "interior" and "boot". I'd say that the merit of giving such a generous proportion of the scoring to the underbonnet and in particular the boot is pretty questionable. I've previously had to deny (IMHO) the "best" car in its class a prize because its underbonnet looked like it had seen a desert storm, but otherwise the car was lovely. Does dirt in the engine bay mean it's badly kept? That's the sound of a can of worms being opened

cheers

James
