Engine: 2.1 Carb B21A: - Clutch slave cylinder removal

Hi all,

While I'm waiting for the water pump to arrive, I found the clutch slave cylinder has completely given up. I was moving the car one day, the next, no gears! It had completely dumped all the fluid.

It's a 1980, so the slave is retained with a circlip, and the cylinder pushed though a mounting point on the bell housing, not bolted on. I got that out (with a fight), now it appears that the cylinder seems to have corroded on the surface to the point it's stuck fast in the mounting point.

I've soaked it with pentrating oil and have tried some gentlish persuasion, but so far to no avail.

I'm a bit scared of damaging the mounting point and then end up having to fully replace it. I don't thnk I can try heating it as there's too much flamable oil down there.

Just wondered if anyone else has encountered a similar issue / any tips?

My beloved Volvo is really starting to fight the idea of being driven again!

The cylinders can be a pain to get out if the have corroded in.

1st step is to soak them and try and twist with pipe grips and a gentle couple of taps with a hammer. Don't hit it hard or the mounting lug can break off the bellhousing

If that fails heat is the only way

Thanks, manage to remove it. Think it needed a little more force! Broke the flange off it, but I'm replacing so no bother.

Glad it worked out for you..They can be very difficult and frustrating...patience is the key...Some may not agree but my crank position sensor had totally seized in bellhousing i used a poultice of various oils with a good dose of brake fluid, it really does soak into corrosion..good news man..well done.hj
