Default Added value hud display

I'm currently retrofitting ACC with Lane keeping aid and collision alert in my V60. Part of it is adding the hud leds in de dash voor the distance alert and collision warning. If I'm correct there is also a sound when there is a collision warning.

As it is quite some work to add the hud (dash removal is needed) and as the system can work without, is it worth it to add it? Do people have experience with it and does it really help?

Hi, have collision alert and the audible warning is more useful than hud , hud more useful as distance to vehicle ahead .

Fortunately my motor a little too old for a front facing camera to tell me how far the vehicle in front is away from me, but when travelling at 60 mph or 88ft per second or approx 4 car lengths, I can’t see the point. The almighty gave me a good set of eyes.
As for Lane departure, turned that off long ago. What an annoying thing that is. Okay, on a desert road, straight as a die, middle of the night and feeling tired, it’s time to stop if you aren’t aware of your vehicles position on the road. In the U.K. on our roads, a waste of time .
These are of course only my opinion, some will think them of great use, just not me.

I'm sorry, but if there is ever any alarm produced by collision warning, lane deviation, City safe and similar 'driver aids' in a car you are in control of, then its time to seriously consider handing in your drivers licence. Again, that is my personal opinion.

Not entirely accurate.

Twice my collision warning has gone off - firstly with the car thinking I was following a slow moving vehicle that was going straight ahead when I was bearing right. Secondly a car coming towards me turned right into a T junction across my path

Thanks for the replies so far, my main driver is the acc and adaptive high beam, I'm missing that the most in my car. With that, the lane keeping, collision warning, driver alert, traffic sign recognition come 'for free' it is all pretty easy to add except the hud display because of the dash removal. I think I'm going to skip that one it I look at the responses

Yep same for me - ie a few false alerts. When they occur you can see why the system may have "panicked" but they are few and far between. Would I bother having it next time if paying for it - probably not

So the driver aid activated.... I sincerely hope the person in charge of the vehicle it was fitted in saw the vehicle before the, (false), 'alarm' activated and didn't panic. I wonder what the reaction of the driver really was when the system activated. If a car is turning across the front of your vehicle, surely you would do an emergency stop if there was no prior indication from the turning car? There should not be any reason why a driver should not be able to carry out an emergency stop. I cannot see any reason at all why such systems need to the installed, the driver should be fully aware of what is happening at all times and be 100% in control of the vehicle without needing driver aids.

Do you think the makers are trying to get us ready for fully autonomous cars ?That is why they are putting all these electronic bits in cars.

We’re about as ready for them as we are living on the moon.
