Question turbo oil seals going or is it something else.

I have a quick question. I have a 940 LPT 1998 which I assume the turbo seals are leaking oil as I have blue grey smoke and a black exhaust. The odd thing is it only does this when sitting idling for a while. I have removed the top hose from the turbo and there is a small amount of oil there. It doesn't smoke at all when I increase the revs to around 1300 and no smoke when driving. Is this normal symptom of bad seals or is there another way of oil getting into the top of the turbo. ie engine breather choked etc. I would have thought it would smoke all the time if the seals are going. I have a second hand td04h-13c to fit but don't want to if its something else as it looks like a bit of a pain of a job. The turbo was making a slight howling noice almost like a siren in the distance but seems to be quiet now.

Any advice or help welcome

Hi, mine did the same, it smoked on idle but was ok when driving. You can buy reseal kits and it much easier than you think to stripped a turbo and reseal:-

Thanks for the link. If it gets really bad I will swap the turbos and recondition the old one. I reckon it just needs new seals. Its only a problem when stuck at lights or in traffic although I had to top up the oil tonight. will monitor how much its using.
