the one I bought last week 2001 V70 2.4T SE Auto 200 bhp for £500 and even at that price if it turns out it needs a new gearbox which I dont know 100% yet then the cost to fix it have had quotes of £1500 to £2000 for a second hand box and transmission control module fitted , would still not be worth doing . There was a 2001 V70 T5 SE Auto 250bhp needing new box failed to attract any bids at £1200 on ebay up to yesterday , lots of people watching it and probably thinking same as me that it would be worth around £500 to £700 . I am advised by forum member that the box on these is called AW55-50 , google it and you will find lots of very detailed information on it , interesting to see the problems coming up on various American forums . The
T5 V70 is a very nice car , would love to have one , my D5 V70 manual is like a tractor by comparison but its horses for courses , in my case I would not have been able to keep a T5 on the road for the mileage I have done. If you like the T5 you are looking at then go to the dealer and make a cheeky offer , they are getting desperate right now and ask them to give you a 3 month warranty on the gearbox .

@ Bernard333 the dealer gives a warranty not been to see them yet just seen it on line plus there is a full service history with the car as well

So I will go see them as soon as I can & have a look round who knows they may have some others not on their website yet
Cheers again for your input

Cheers Tony Do all V70's have self levvellers as standard & has anyone got a photo of what they look like so I can check if the correct shocks are fitted to the car before I buy one

I know the Nivomats on a Sierra estate only came on the Ghia model as that is what I own at the moment & I know they ain't cheap as one of mine failed
(£185 from Ford) which is why I now have Monroe self levellers on the rear.

If you take the reg number to a Volvo dealer they will be able to tell you if it has Nivomats or not; it's that simple. They can be retro fitted, but it's not a cheap job unless you find someone who is taking them out of a car.

Hi Jim.

I used to tow with an 850T5 manual. It was superb. Only downside was the 18 or so mpg with the van on the back.

V70D5 may well be the way forward.

I see you are in Aldershot.

These guys come highly recommended on this forum & are near (ish) to you.

I have no experience of them myself.

I used to live in Pompey & used this chap in Fareham. Not too far you, I guess

I bought three Volvo's here & had all my servicing done by him, before I escaped to the sun! Still have one of them!
