i personaly use a tow rope myself on feilds some times if the van isnt boged down i will use chains <snow chains> u can buy mats but old capet tiles work just as well

A tow rope is a great way to get the car on firm ground so you can get some decent grip, just have to be sure that no one is standing near the rope in case it snaps and wips around !

u miss the point sir buy using a rope u can give some time to gather momentum
to jerk the van out of a bog
