Having confidence in your car
You know that feeling, when you get up in the morning and just know your car will start and get you to your destination without fuss? ….and surely we have all had the opposite feeling, the butterflies in the stomach, will it start won‘t it start, will it go wrong etc?
What’s the vehicle or vehicles you have had the most confidence in over the years, where its been kind of a given that nothing will go wrong? My list of fuss free motoring consists of Volvo 340, Nissan Micra, Toyota Tercel, Datsun 120A F11, Ford Sierra GLS and Ford Escort L. The Toyota in particular was simply amazing, quite simply because it needed nothing ever, apart from tyres and a set of brakes. It was never serviced over the years either, nor really looked after over about 100k miles. Rust got it in the end, the same as the Datsun. The Sierra was also fantastic, bought second hand cheap with 'low mileage' from an auction; transpired it had been a taxi and covered huge mileage. Always started and nothing went wrong in about 25k over a year. So what’s your list of brilliantly reliable cars? Regards |

Whether the fecking Fiat would throw the airbag light at me or the power steering light - started every time though.
Minus that pretty happy with it the Volvo starts fine pretty much all the time without the random lights like it is on a period... |

Our Renault Megane, its had it's niggles but never fails to start or run. I've had BMW, Audi, Saab etc and all have had expensive parts fail on them. Volvo so far has had the most spent on it than any other car I've had, not much engine wise to be fair...but I love it.

My C30 gives me as much confidence as you could possibly wish. It will ALWAYS start. Everything will ALWAYS work. No problems with anything. The car has been 5 years long as reliable as it should be!
The S80 on the otherhand like to break down... The Transit (which we are still forced to have) does it the same. And my little brother's C180 Turbo has already let him down twice within 6 months... My older brother's Passat 35i eats engines... My old 960 wanted basically something new repaired each week. Sometimes the cat (expensive expensive). Sometimes the brakes (handbrake, etc.). Or the engine. Or the gearbox. Or the headlights. Or the radio. Or the sunroof. I was always repairing that... And it didn't always want to start...

All 4 Volvos I've had I have had the utmost faith in and none of them have ever let me down. My current car-Scenic-starts 1st time every time but an annoying rattle has started that I presume is the alternator letting go...

My Honda Civic is the most reliable motor that I've had (Sorry Volvo). Apart from the battery failing at 7yrs old it been great. Don't get me wrong, my Volvos been great do far after rectifying the issue I bought it with but it still needs to prove itself.

Agree on the Civic front. We have a 2001 Civic that has been in the family since new (My Mums car originally) and all we have had done is a new battery and an exhaust.
Sorry to say I have spent more on the V70 D5 in six months than we have in twelve years on the Civic ! Had a BMW 3 series before the Volvo which only had an issue with a front balljoint in ten years from new and always started every time. Having said all that I still love the D5 and it's by far the most comfortable car I've ever owned. The seats are the best ever and it's unmatched as a motorway cruiser. |

I had a TD4 Freelander which cost me a kings ransom in repairs but what a good off roader. My Discovery was another money pit but a great motor to drive. Na, Honda is a good motor and I'm holding my hopes open for my S-60
