Nope, the connector has nothing going into it and just clips into the top of the glovebox - That's it

There was not much dust but still, inside of it is, looks like a small fan which also covered in dust. With a small drawing brush I could clean it up.

in case anyone stumbles on this, I found this video really useful. I didn't remove the glove box, admittedly might might it more awkward but felt quicker. Once I knew what I was doing took me about 20 minutes, the first 20 minutes was spent trying to understand the layout. Now for a beer...... |

After several aborted half attempts over the years I'm attempting this properly this weekend and removing the cem unit. Doubt it's ever been done. Wish me luck.

That's the way to go buddy. Take the opportunity to use contact cleaner in there while you're at it.

That was a pig of a job. I've no idea how anyone does it with the unit in the way. Thankfully just a single screw holding the cover in place, so it must've been done at least once.

I was unable to do it without disconnecting the cem unit when I changed mine a couple of months ago as well. Pig of a job but I probably won't need to do it again while under my ownership.

I've done mine 3 times without removing the CEM, I just lowered it on its wiring loom, mine's a 2004 build date so whether mine has more slack in the wiring I don't know, some things were different on the early models whilst Ford were sticking their noses into everything.

No need to remove/unplug the CEM.
Just use a ratchet head spanner to remove the nuts for the bracket, then lower everything down and out the way at once. I always remove the glove box though, gives a lot more access to the area.
