I had this on my 08 s40. First of all on the drivers door. Had it replaced under warranty. Strangely the rear door on the same side went a couple of weeks later (also replaced under warranty). My guess is it was the same design and came from a bad batch. Since they experience exactly the same number of cycles, it's no coincidence that they went together. The deadlocks should only make a 'clunk' noise...screeching or otherwise indicates a problem.

When one goes I tend to find the other is not far behind agreed, mine was about 4-5 months apart.

Mines definately screeches on the back drivers side door I can hear the others clunk like normal mines is s40 57/08 had the Volvo tech guys look at it when it was in they just said its just noisy but I can hear a screech it still locks right enough I have a warranty that covers central locking motors and relays not sure if this would cover the deadlocks though

Screeching is usually a sign before they do fail, sometimes they carry on for a bit, on and off but eventually the result is the same - when I got my second one done I had a little fight with my dealership over it initially said nothing wrong - errr a couple of weeks before the drivers one went guess what it was doing EXACTLY the same.

Erm well if it is anything like my drivers one from memory yes the locking mechanism is one thing alone and a little sh*t of a job.

When they go the best bit mine locked me IN the car, understandably this is why I went off on one when the passenger one started making the same noises!

They are one component the squealing is what they do not long before they fail it will only get worse.

Eventually they do it everyday until the pin no longer actually goes up or down properly showing it's state and you are fighting with the door.

Yeah this is exactly what mine did, I put some spray in it and it was okay for maybe a week but then it really just went f*** you.

I hope you have warranty...not exactly cheap.
