Default Wasted spark no tacho

Well I went with the BTI wasted spark and it's running but not yet been driven out.

Idle seems fine and it picks up well. However I have no tacho. I thought being a kit it would just work. It's 2nd hand kit and the seller has been a champ. I was semi aware of it maybe being an issue.

Anyone else running this wasted spark and got the tacho working?

Cheers

Martin

Hi,

As Volvo Utrecht has stated, you'll need a relay, but then you'll need to take out the flappy bit, and connect to pins 30 and 87 iirc where your coil used to provide the tach signal before.

It might be worth checking the manufacturers website, there must be a signal somewhere to tell the fuel pump relay to start working via the fuel ECU (or have you changed that as well?) which only gives an output when it reads the pulses off the CPS.

Section 3 of that deals with the tacho output. It looks like you have the same picture as they have used, whether that's from the same original publicatioin or not i don't know.

I’m using the BTI kit, but I’ve mounted it differently.

I’ll post some pictures up of the relay and wiring in a short while.

From the original coil you should have a solid blue wire and a white/red(orange) wire.

The coil that you're now using, the middle wire in that plug needs to goto and be connected to the original blue wire. Both of those wires connect to the relay. The white/red(orange) wire connects to the other side of the relay. This should give you the Tach signal. See pictures attached.

Hopefully that helps!

Massive thank you to all of you. That did the trick and now I have a working tacho. I will post some pictures of it later.

Funny how missing that gauge can ruin my driving plesure.

The power of the internet!

:-)
