150mph volvo 440 please help
can anyone tell me if this is a standard 440glt. ive only had the car 4 days and im gob smacked, iv even had the engine looked at by a garage and been told that the engine looks normal. it is a non turbo. and looks as it should, so here goes: the kick down on this automatic slams you into the back of the seat! and pulls like a thing possed all the way round to the speedo limit of 140mph! and then past it! the car has 157.000 on the clock is this normal? if not how could this have been modified .

I'd start by checking the speedo against a GPS................

That sounds like a whole bagload of non-standard to me. GLT would be a 2.0, but I wouldn't expect it to be able to do much over 120 (on the speedo).

Could it be a different model engine I wonder - so it would look standard in that it didn't have extra bits hanging off, but not what it left the factory with? If it wasn't a garage that was familiar with the model (after all it's quite old now) maybe that would throw them? But I'd have thought a new engine would require something on the log book or the VIN numbers wouldn't tie up or something (idle speculation on my part here)?
I can't believe a bog standard 440GLT would do those sorts of speeds ... lucky blighter if you have got one that does it (and it's not an insurance problem waiting to bite you). |

its normal
its defonately normal, ive got a 2.0 glt which is modded and ive had mine up to 140 with 850rpm left when i ran out of road. my cars having a S40 T4 turbo lump papped into it over the next couple of weeks and its getting a 50 shot of N2o in as well so it will be off the clock then, welcome to the volvo world !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Inbetween Volvo's...

I don't know about all these power claims. A 2.0i 440 could possibly push 125-127mph max-any higher on a standard lump, i wouldn't have thought so. A Turbo, possibly 135mph at a push-but the 2.0i being 110hp and the 1.7 Turbo being 122hp (ish), i wouldn't think the 2.0i could hit 140mph. The 440's hardly the most aerodynamic or light car either...
Again, not being negative but that sounds like an awful lot of power for a standard lump. Prove me wrong, i'm never too stubborn to learn!

Here are the RR results for a standard 480 turbo auto!
I don't see how his 440 n/a could do 150mph, Anyways when I get back from NZ I'll be taking the 480t down to Power Engineering for another test with auto and T25 and rich mod then later on with a manual and T25 and rich mod. |
