I had a 480 1.7 Naturally Aspirated Version, and it would regularly go off the clock.

But only when i was going down a 2 mile long steep hill.

it certainly is normal, a good 440 glt should easily reach around 200 mph, in fact a mate of mine had nearly 240 mph out of his and that was going up shap on the m6 towing his dads caravan(although to be fair he had fitted a k&n filter and big bore zorst) people just dont realise how well quick these cars really are and just accuse you of being a bull****ting ,sad, walter mitty, chav who needs to get a life when you tell them what these amazingly underated cars really are capable of, take no notice of the cynical doubters on here, they no nuffin an are well jealous.

My normal 440 glt 2.0, going for a bit of a pelt on the m6, had it up to ***ish and it felt like it could do much much more. not sure about 240. but im sure it would do at least 135 or so.

they are awesomely underated cars, that people just ignore because its a volvo

I've got to say I have know a couple of 2ltr 400's that will do about 130 - 135 with a well worn in engine. I suppose with a few mods (remove cat K&N etc) you would get about 140. It takes a lot more power to gain extra top end speed

I own a 440GL 1721cc n/a 1989's model with 105bhp(as the factory say)
At the first year, (~5000km) it couldn't reach more than 170kmh(105mph)
Today, just with a K&N air filter and 170000km on clock, it can catch 220km/h (~135mph) and can go for more...!

How can you explain this.....??
