Well, Now that you've all sheathed you handbags }(

Yes, you can take the car to a dealers, the car CAN be towed, no greater than 30mph and no greater than 15 miles distance (I think, can't quite remember Doh!!)

An alternative is to roll the car out the driveway, down to the end of the road a bit, and then call for a flatbed from the AA/RAC and get the car lifted to the garage.... Done this a couple of times :D

And anyway how can we diagnose this problem if you don't tell us what it is huh?? "Spitting the Dummy" ain't gonna help now is it? One Suggestion to consider is that some may be on holiday in THEIR Beloved Volvos hence a delay in response, just something to think about... Others may have found the board a little stale as there haven't been many good topics to assist on. I've lost a good friend on the board through this ..."Dummy Spitting" that is, and he feels that to many are taking "Pops" at him for helping. Bottom line is this try asking in a better manner, be courteous and all will be well and vice versa that's all, No Offence intended :D :+ :D

well i'll just add something...just like to say i'm not a member(but i'll eventually get round to that)and i've posted a couple of questions and the response was great ...got all my queries answered in a nice and friendly manner and the best thing is it's all FREE ...thanks guys

The problem is the bleeder won't start, got spark and fuel,Diagnostic codes come up clear, cranks faster and faster as if going to start but doesn't quite get there. Sudden fault, no warnings,last time drove all perfect.

Sounds like the crankshaft sensor or knock sensor is faulty, problem is I don't own an 850, so I can't tell you where to look, on my 760 the sensor is on the gearbox top, at the back of the engine, on my BM it's on the front, right next to the crank. Sometimes, if it's located in any of the two areas, the sensor gets dirty reducing the gap & creating the no start effect that you're experiencing. Someone on the board maybe able to direct you further as to where these sensors are located, even a dealership will tell if you've no success here.

Hi,

my t'pence worth. Camshaft position sensors have shown problems in the past. Knock sensors will give error codes and lit engine management warning light on dash (lambda character) but will still allow engine to run.

It could just be a poor connection on one of the many electrical connector blocks.

I had the camshaft sensor go on my 850 & it did the same as your saying, BUT it gave a code on the diagnostic saying so.

I would recommend replacing the crank sensor first, it is the cheapest of the two sensors (only cost me about £35).

I had same problem over Christmas. Crank sensor was showing a signal, but it wasn't a strong enough one to tell the computer to send a signal to the coil.

Going through all this at Christmas I was told it could be:

- Crank Sensor
- Cam sensor (believed to be the most common fault)
- ECU (rare)
- Wiring fault (even rarer)

Ring Dave at DPS and tell him the fault and I am sure he can give you some pointers. He is on 0115 978 1117. Tell him Phil with the white ex-police T5 recommended him. He had mine on and off for about a fortnight at Christmas and I was ready to sell it, but once it was fixed and I booted it along a country lane I forgot all of the troubles!

Also had exactly the same symptoms with our 855. Dealer finally found out that it was the camshaft sensor - not cheap at around £200 fitted.
However, the diagnostic system said that there were no faults - which is why it took the dealer a while to find out what was wrong.
