Volvo 122s 1966
Just bought this 122s which doesn't have any overiders and no holes where they should be. I have seen another photo of a 1966 122s and this lone didn't have overiders either. Can anyone tell me if this is genuine or should they have overiders.

Welcome to this forum, where you can get help on almost everything Volvo Amazon, just about our most popular car.
Admitted I'm not an expert (and there are some on here who are and would no doubt correct me), just an owner, but most I have seen have overriders. However, they seem more prone to rusting than the bumper itself, so lots of people remove them. The three-part bumper (if original) should have large chrome-plated coach bolts securing it to the mounting irons, and if no overriders at those joining positions too. However, that inner position is where the overriders fit: they have captive nuts on their rear such that bolts go through those bumper holes and locate. Make sure you get a mounting kit as there are curved plates as part of the fit - those are often omitted. All parts available from Brookhouse Volvo Parts of Ipswich: if you order a set be sure to identify fronts from rears (!) as a friend has them the wrong way round on her car! Any chance of a picture or two? Paul |

I don't know about Volvo in general or the 122 in particular but on some makes/models over riders were an optional extra so could be specified or not.

Amazon overiders
All Amazon orginally had overiders on front and rear bumpers the only difference is on the estate which has different rear ones flat topped with a rubber foot.

My old man bought a cherry red 121 around '63. Don't recall any over riders on that - he swapped it out for a BM 2000 Touring thing in '72 so think I would have recall of bumper bits by then.
Net photos show images of both. |
