I've just spoken to a mate whose XC90 was in for a service yesterday. Co-incidentally, I had emailed him about the recall yesterday.

When he picked the car up he asked about the recall and if it had been actioned. The dealer didn't know about the recall but upon checking found that my mate's car was affected. It'll have to go back in to be seen to and the dealer said it was urgent (or words to that effect).

Great, thanks for the info! So is your car booked in for a fix now? I live in the south east so I'm hoping to get confirmation from the Grimbsy dealership and book it into Volvo Watford for a service.

Going in on Tuesday. What has surprised me is the urgency in this recall.

Ah that's quick... this bit does sound worrying: "...this condition could affect SRS systems (airbag), engine management systems etc...". *gulp*

From what my dealer told me, only a small proportion of cars are thought to be affected. However they have no idea which cars are affected and their initial checks will involve removing some panels and looking for condensation/ moisture/water.
If they find any of this ,he advises that the car will need a pretty extensive tear down and will be with them for several days.

The aircon evaporator (where moisture condenses) and the drain pipe from it are behind the dashboard so it'll probably mean the entire dashboard being removed. Not a trivial job and the labour cost, which presumably Volvo will pick up, will be significant.
