Further update:

Having emailed customer care yesterday i just received a call from them apologising for the issues and they have said they will liaise with the dealer to get this resolved to my satisfaction. They advised this was a known issue in previous software builds but were unaware of this being a current issue, i mentioned that this seems to have cropped up since the November update.

I was also advised there would be some form of goodwill gesture once this has been resolved.

Hats off to my dealer for squeezing me in today especially but also Volvo customer care, hopefully this level of attention continues.

Just heard from the service team and they are advising that it is the battery that is faulty so they have put a new one in and carried out a software update. I've asked if this is the main battery or the support battery or both.

This means there has been a software update in the last week as my car is a week old today.

Fingers crossed....

Hope that fixes it. There were reports on Swedespeed of batteries being replaced on some cars.

Yes and its consistent with what somone has had done over on swedespeed too (battery and software), however they noted that some other functions were disabled by the update, so i will have to do some testing.

Nothing else to add im afraid other than battery change and software update as the service guy who was looking after me was at lunch when i got to the dealership and the paperwork wasnt finished so i collected the keys and left.

Noted in the swedespeed thread that other people who have had their battery replaced still have seen the message re-appear afterwards... we shall see.

SWISS

I could not agree with you more : I have a P1V70R with an unknown drain, I suspect microswitch or alarm back up battery, an S60 with a drain I have no time to investigate ( probably alarm crack up battery again ) and an 850T5 with a 1 yr old battery. To avoid the woes illustrated by this thread I invested in a CTEK a few months ago, cannot recall if it is 5 or 8 amp, but it is invaluable, intelligent and tells me what a beating even the good battery takes in this weather. Best 50 quid I ever invested !

Appalling to read this thread, I am not a modern Volvo fan as you have probably guessed ( prefer motas you can actually work on as opposed to paying a clown £120+ an hour to plug in a device and stare at it ) but non starting after a few days unacceptable on any basis !

Another thread on Swedespeed for those interested, noting the rear boot kick sensor being replaced under a TJ but not necessarily fixing the problem:

Would only take an hours' work to determine what is causing the power drain on each car, worthwhile investment

A CTEK charger is just avoiding the problem, not fixing it....

I know some new cars the alternator doesn't work all the time.
If the engine is under high load the Air conditioning and alternator are turned off for a time to help deliver more power to drive the wheels & emission levels.
Do Volvo do the same ?.
