I've had to take it into a dealer for a couple of items as they required use of the Volvo updates system, however from this point on it will be serviced by my friendly local mechanic who has been servicing all my cars for the last 20+ years.
Always gives me an good price and warns of upcoming work (his assesment was: rear pads need doing on next service but will be OK for now, fronts are halfway through their life, everything else seems ok, Volvo's assessment was OH MY GOD YOU WILL DIE IF YOU DRIVE THIS 5 MORE YARDS WITH THOSE BRAKES!! He worked in a few dealers before going independent about 5 years ago and he has lots of tales of what they do to generate more profit from each customer visit.

I always buy ex company vehicles that are 3-4 years old and have full dealer service history. Then I use an independent Volvo specialist. Excellent service, good prices and an honest chat about the condition of the car.
Would be happy to recommend him (Tewkesbury area).

Just had my beast done today, €1300 odd....new discs and brakes etc plus a few other odds from my Volvo dealer whom I rate very highly.
Anyhow, with a dealer or specialist Volvo garage you get someone familiar with Volvo and who carry any specialist tools. .

For me, I'd stick full dealer until at least 5yrs or 100,000 miles as then you can sell the car on as Volvo Approved Used meaning you (might) get a slightly better price for it.
And as has been mentioned already, you get system & satnav updates as well as breakdown service thrown in. |

Some good advice from my dealer service chap this week.
Basically they have a plan A and a Plan B, both same price but plan A Covers more but is only for cars <5yrs and <60,000 miles, after this you would have to take plan B. So advice for me at 3yrs and 40k is to extend by 1yr £399 so that next year I'll still be under 60k and to then extend for a further 3 yrs (max) all on plan A. |

I use two dealerships and both give me a competitive price and a good service. I took my car into the dealer to sort out an advisory that was on my last mot. At this point they could have charged Thongy for two suspension units..... No, I got a phone call telling me that they didn't need doing, the corrosion was normal for this particular component and there was nooooo charge for the inspection carried out. Thank you chaps for that, they're a decent dealer in my books plus they rushed my motor though after a wheelbearing failure so I could get away on holiday on time. When I had Land rove I used specialists are the faffing that used to happen was shocking along with the state of their work quality. I find with the dealers it's a simple this is how much it's going to cost and it's gets done on time.... I'm happy to pay the extra for that level of service.

Re servicing. I've just purchased my D5 manual Se Lux nav. Bendy lights etc, so plenty to go wrong! It's 18 months old and the previous owner had done just 3.5k miles. The main dealer serviced it with a quick oil change before we took delivery and we decided to take out a 5 year service plan with a cam belt change included for complete peace of mind. I look at it that everything is now catered for and we know that the price we pay is inflation proof. I know that the recommended mileage/time for a cam belt will not be reached, but it will do no harm to change it and once done will give us more peace of mind. This is my first Volvo, having changed from BMW. I have to say, I am very impressed with it at this very early stage in ownership. I think that by showing such loyalty and trust to the dealership and Volvo, then God forbid, if something did go wrong, then they would recognise my commitment to them. I just hope the dealership's serving department isn't as bad as my experiences with BMW main dealers. I'm hoping they cater for and recognise private individuals rather than fleet cars.

Mine is done via the main dealer from where I bought my car. The financial matters are paid to a company called EMac. (I am not meaning to advertise this company). My wife has a service plan on her Toyota and it is administered by the same company, the main dealer she bought her car from is not the same as from where I bought my car. (Listers Group, Sytner Group). The cost of the plan depends on how long you chose to have it running and what you have included. You pay monthly in advance. I know that initially I will pay more for what I will be getting, but as time goes on I believe I will more than recoup the costs with inflation. Ok I could get the car serviced by an independent garage and costs would be reduced but I also have free MOT's for as long as I'm on the plan and discounted prices on any accessories or extra parts from the main dealer which may be required for any work done there which is not servicing.
