Default Front fog Condensation

Both front fogs on my 2010 v70 are totally filled with condensation. I tried leaving them on during a long trip hoping they would dry out, no difference. Having searched, I found some mention of a mod by a main dealer, but no further. Mot is soon, don't think they will be an issue, rather get them dry before they get damaged .

I think it's a sealing problem Pete. You will probably have to take it/them out, and make sure they are sealed properly front and back. You can dry out the moisture that's inside with a heat gun or you can pinch the wife's hairdryer, but be careful doing the latter, she may hit you over the head with something hard and/or heavy.

Took both out yesterday, and found water sitting in both. Washed then clean with a bit of detergent inside and out then left to dry on the radiator for a few hours. Now nice and clean although I noticed some of the silver has come off on the edge of the reflectors. Let them sit outside while I reassembled everything, bulbs in, trim on, all ok. Bulb check, nice and clean, rolled down off the ramps, packed up, final check, left side steamed up. Wtf. Each lamp has two vents on apposite sides one top the other bottom. They also don't have a rear cover, looks like they rely on the rubber seal of the bulb alone. Next I guess is to leave them on when I can and see what happens.

They don't even have to work.
One of mine is smashed and had masking tape over for the test and the other has a blown bulb.
Front fogs aren't a testable item.

We also have an 07 v50 and a 10 c30, both cars drive on the same roads as my v70, yet neither have an issue with misting in the lamps, as my previous p1 and 2 cars also had no issues.

Mine did this after about 3 years (2011 model). It took it to my local dealer who were familiar with the problem and they fixed it. Never happened again. This would suggest there is a Volvo cure for it, unfortunately I don't know what it is! I've not researched it online but if you can't find anything (like service bulletins) then you could always ask your local dealer if you have a good relationship with them.

I asked my local dealer who also supplied the car and was told they weren't aware of this, they suggested airing them whilst they do the mot. They seem ok at the moment after another drive with the fog lights lit. Time will tell, mot next Tuesday so see what they ate like on the day, even though they won't be a fail etc.
