Mine's due a 5 year service in a couple of weeks, the online price calculator comes up with a bargain(!) £915. Fortunately I dont need any belts as my replacement engine came with them ready installed so I'll have to see if they'll negotiate a price. However, I do feel that these issues really prevent me from having it serviced elsewhere.

Regarding a new engine , you are supposed to service it as the original , so even if the engine and belts are new a year before the belt service is due you should do them at the correct intervals . This is keep the records straight , you could add details to the service book if you don't have them changed but it could make it uncertain if they would ever get changed at the right interval with a future owner as service books can go missing ..... I doubt a dealer would do a 5 year/90000 mile cambelt service without changing it .... you would be benefiting ( make a personal profit) from a warranty job and this is frowned upon .. see how it goes ....

Are the belts on the D4 not replaced at 10 years or 144k miles?

Interesting. On the new schedule my car is therefore well overdue (136k on the clock). I was expecting it be changed anyway of course at the 144k service. Any idea what the cost might be at the Volvo dealer?

Yours is the new VEA 2.0 Diesel from 2014 and later i assume ? Price will vary depending on dealers labour rates .. £ 350 - £400+ for the cambelt job perhaps. .. They are not calling the older cars in , They will sort out whether it needs to be done or not when it goes in for the next service .

The exact same situation as mine. Hesitation indicating blockage has become so bad the inlet valves are no longer sealing properly. By that time inlet manifold is bunged up and probably the failed EGR cooler solution too.....Presumably a minority of unlucky ones for some reason get the manifold melting and a fire first hence the Safety Recall so Volvo can absolve themselves of any offence in that direction. There are no improved parts and the inherent problem will continue.
Other posts seem to say 2017 cars onwards are not badly affected although the notice goes up to 2019. . Note though it has taken a few years and a lot of mileage for the above issues to develop, after the initial failed “permanent fix” which appeared to mask the problem by keeping the EGR valve itself fairly clear. Allowing the problem to build up elsewhere so is it definite later cars are not affected or just wishful thinking..... |
