Hi everyone,
As i stated in my last thread i have started to restore my early 73 145,i have removed the only rotten parts on the car,the front wings. I have removed the winscreen again floors still getting wet but no rot arround the sreen it isonly after removing wings did i find two small holes about 3 mm in dia at the top of the bulkhead area imposible to see with wings on so im confident i have found my water leak.I found a hole near the o/s front bonnet hinge mount and o/s inner wing where it meets th front pannel and the near side. All these areas have now been cut out and butt welded in new metal and primed with anti rust primer and all old underseal removed and new applied, i now have a rot free 145 again. my main question is on removal of wings there is a type of sealer used that does not go off(top edge)and a different type used on front edge and front edge of front pannel that does go off, grey ontop green on the others and it has done a very good job keeping the pannels sealed from water does any body know what they are called or a modern equiv please dont say stico cheers yellow 145 |

Maybe Arboseal GZ Try a big glazing supplier for it.
http://www.arbo.co.uk/docstore/pricelist.pdf scroll to page 14 3M do a strip body caulk but not so easy to find in the UK http://www.consumablesexpress.co.uk/...g/Sealers.html I can remember buying a roll of something similar from a VW main dealer when I put a new wing on a Mk 1 Golf. Maybe they can still supply but a trade bodyshop place should be able to sort you out. Dum-Dum is good for sealing round wires and cables that go through the bulkhead. |
