Default 1990 960 3.0 24V Breaking

I'm sending an early 960 estate to the scrapyard soon. I have removed the parts I want myself or wish to sell on Ebay, everything else is available, BUT I am no mechanic so if removal is even quite involved I would invite you to remove it yourself and I'll provide drinks if you're lucky.

Already accounted for and on EBay soon:

Rare 16-inch "Hydra" alloy wheels x 5
Red/clear tail lights (18 months old)
All clear front indicators and side repeators (18 months old)
Headlining
Tailgate struts
Leather seats and doorcards
Leather steering wheel
Eggcrate grille
Wing mirrors
Rear plastic valance
All badges

So that leaves all the bodypanels (Verdigris Green Metallic) which will also fit post-'87 760 and post-89 740 and all 940 models, bumpers in very good condition, switches, stalks, engine, gearbox etc, notably a Nissens radiator that was brand new 18 months ago and a new steering rack etc, a brand new front wishbone was fitted too for the last MoT at £65+... The engine has 182,000 and had a breather problem which my Volvo main dealer never resolved so it kept soiling the drive, hence why the car was laid up. Cosmetically the car was in lovely condition inside and out. I have uploaded pictures - please see below. I would rather see stuff put to good use than be scrapped so am not after megabucks for any remaining parts, so if you need a PAS pump, or alternator or ABS pump etc dirt cheap, message me. Car is located 10 minutes from Stratford-on-Avon on the Worcester side. 25 minutes from M40 Jn15, 25 mins M42 Jn3, 35 mins M5 Jn7. Daniel

Hi, is the headlight wiper assembly in good working order? How much for the pair of headlight wiper motors, wiper arm & blades and the associated hoses?

jim760, yes i do feel a bit guilty about scrapping it as it was once one of the smartest 1990 965's around, but i spent so much having a new breather/oil trap box fitted, then a 3 week spell at local volvo main dealer which robbed me of £200, and it still chucked out oil and needed topping up every month at least... i've had two years use and 15,000 miles out of the car, repair costs notwithstanding i've had my money's worth, so it's going to make more money in parts i feel - the "Hydra" wheels might appeal to some.

yes headlamp wipers, motors etc all present and working. i'll save those and you can make me an offer - can get it couriered to you for £8.

How much would you be looking for the 4 exterior door window rubber trims (the bit that goes between the edge of the door metal, and the glass). Sorry, I've not described it great, and I don't know their official names.

It does seem such a shame. I would have been tempted to find a new engine for it.

Hi
I'd sooner sell the doors complete than take trims and rubber seals off to be honest.

There's no way I can take cams out, if you want the engine and can remove and collect it...

Finding a good engine and paying to have it fitted would never be viable I'm afraid. Besides it's a 2-owner car with FSH so even with 180K it's disgusting that the breather system is ballsed up == it seems to afflict loads of Volvo's 740s, 960's, 850's.... and this is the only marque I have experienced this problem with out of a fair few Mercedes, BMW's, Porsches etc. you would have thought they would have cured it by the time the 850 was launched! Sorry rant over, but I am still miffed at scrapping an otherwise good car, the 3.0 24V is such a fast, smooth and characterful engine... I read that Porsche had some design input with the multivalve engines of the 740 GLT 16V and this 960 unit, although Volvo didn't advertise this.
