Default Floods

Hi, After my accident in pride and joy a couple of weeks ago I managed to find another. We have had some local flooding and going to work last night had to go through 300mm of water which the car did no probs. Finished work this morning and although the car started ok it would not go into gear.

Along came the RAC pumped the clutch a few times and it went into gear. He suggested going the the garage I use, Independent Volvo specialist, as he though there may be an airlock or a clutch slave cylinder issue. Went up to the garage and his advice was to use it as he thought the clutch plate had stuck to the fly wheel having bin through the water.

Any thoughts

Thanks

Yeah, as above. Your clutch is less than 300mm above the ground and the bell housing is not watertight, so damp clutch plate seems right.

Its possible the hydraulic line received a thermal shock if it was at operating temp, i'd use it and see but at worst you may just need to bleed the clutch if the stickiness persists..

Your garage made a very good diagnosis there .The flywheel surface that the clutch presses on is usually very bright and shiny and is perfect to start rusting if it gets wet ,which is rare, but going through a deepish puddle right under the car could well do this and it would cause the friction plate to stick .You sometimes get this with cars that have stood for a long time and condensation etc .has caused rusting and sticking .Should soon polish off .
I used to collect cars for delivery in the old days from the factory and often they had been stood for months in a damp field ,and stuck clutches was a common enough problem .
