Default "Engine service required"

Hello,

I would be grateful if anybody has any suggestions how to get rid of this annoying message from a 2010 diesel V70 DrivE.

When it first appeared, I scanned the codes with Vida and it was apparently caused by a fault with the glow plug relay. Finding the relay wasn't easy. When I found it, I metered it and there is nothing wrong with it. I bent the contacts in the socket a little and refitted the relay and cleared the codes. The relay DTC is gone, but the warning hasn't.

There are DTCs, but most aren't relevant (window codes). None of the codes are requesting the warning.

The car has no performance issues , so why the warning?

Has anybody any ideas?

Thanks.

Could it be a routine engine service required? IE, time to change the oil. Go into the menu using the left stalk and it might tell you how many miles left until our next service.

You probably are due for a service, but you can reset the service reminder yourself by inserting the key into position2 in its keyway, and at the same time holding the trip/clock reset button in, and then a quick press on the start button while keeping the trip button pressed for about 10 seconds, or until you her a bleep that indicated that the service reminder has been reset.

If I recall correctly & the car is due a service, the dash warning says something along the lines of "Scheduled maintenance due".

I think the error you're getting now would be "Engine System Service required", not "Engine Service required" - The latter isn't a warning that pops up to my knowledge. If that's the case, the message isn't telling you that your car is due for an oil change etc - Its indicating an engine system error.

I have reset the service interval, that wasn't the answer. In fact it wasn't due anyway.

When I clear the codes, the warning goes away, but immediately returns on the next restart. There are codes, but none are requesting the warning.

It can't be high oil level, as the 1.6 DriveE doesn't have an electronic dipstick.

The only thing I have seen in the data is that the boost pressure is higher than requested.

I still ave no ideas.

You need Torque and see what the fuel pressure and everything else is doing.

You are correct it is a fault, not routine service due. The problem is I don't know what its is. There are no DTCs calling for the warning. I have looked at many parameters with the engine running and stopped. The only thing that is not really good is EGR partially restricted, but that's not calling for the warning either.

Still stumped!

The relay DTC is gone, but the warning hasn't.

The fault code initially was caused by an issue with the glow plug relay. You bent the connections of the existing relay, refitted the same part, cleared the codes & the warning was still there. Maybe that relay is totally knackered & you need to fit a new one?

The only thing I have seen in the data is that the boost pressure is higher than requested.

What's the fault code & exact wording of the issue on VIDA? This could be another potential culprit.

In reference to the restricted EGR, that could cause you issues in the future. I presume by 'restriction' you mean carbon build up. If so, it needs a good clean because there's a risk of the car going into limp mode if it gets worse.
