Regarding bushes: my first choice would be Meyle Heavy Duty, followed by Febi and Lesjofors...

Agree with ITSv40, Meyle are my choice for bushes on these. Available from PFV last time I looked. A job I've done, so start another thread if you have problems changing them, lots of folk on here that can help. Cheers!

Hi Duke1, I've been reading your post with interest, as I'm battling the ABS light on issue too. Was your ABS sensor an aftermarket ATE one that you had to shave off with a fine file? My recently replaced left ABS sensor is an ATE one according to the indy's invoice. I don't know if it was purchased from Intermotor or is Intermotor a brand carried by Eurocarparts? If the ATE sensor doesn't fit as it should, that's what could be giving me my issue. Can you describe which bit you shaved off please via screenshot of the sensor (from the internet) and circle it? I may try the same thing as the common factor here is we both have an aftermarket ATE ABS sensor. I guess the OEM sensors are no longer available from Volvo

I'm glad you solved your issue and can now enjoy your 850

Many thanks.

hi the pattern part was lemark but in an intermotor box and its easy to tell just compare the new one directly alongside the original and on the sides of them are alignment slots for want of a better description just ensure they are the same on the new one, have you power wire brush? if you can use one to clean the top of the hole the sensor lives in and when fitting use a light and glasses if you wear them and when you tighten the 10mm securing nut ensure the sensor as a whole is level and fully home.
if yours has the brake pedal position sensor a round black sensor with a plug on just under the master cyl that is most likely culprit(easily mended yourself) along with the brake light switch a horrid thing to change, have you any diagnostic codes?also have you checked and cleaned earth cables?those on the battery and also those visible ot the top rearmost area under the bonnet? these are small but crucial and do fail through rust etc,you can test the speed sensors with a cheap multimeter easy, good luck

Hi Duke1, thanks for your reply. Going back to your above post about shaving a bit off the aftermarket ABS sensor and the alignment lugs, I've taken a photo of an old and probably broken senor (don't know if it's an OEM one, as the previous owner gave me a box of spares he had and this was in it). Where I have the arrows, are these the alignment lugs you are talking about? And which bit do you mean that needed shaving off so it sat correctly?

Does the ABS sensor actually touch the reluctor ring or does it sit on top of it with a space between the ring? I'd say it can't touch the ring as it would grind the senor.

Many thanks.

hi yes thats the bit,may i ask for the second time have you checked for dtcs a diagnostic would tell you if this was the problem with a code ?there should be a gap between sensor and reluctor ring idk what maybe 2=3mm at a guess, code would give a number and tell you weak signal on o/s on moving off or something similar, good luck
you can test the old sensor with a cheap as chips multimeter and saves money if you are only buying what is needed. what model and year of volvo?

Hi Duke1, my (cheap) OBDII reader can't read ABS codes for my 98 V70. Not had the chance to look the issue again.

I had been feeling smug that my own ABS fault was fixed by cleaning the contacts on the ECU but today the dreaded ABS light came back after several months on not showing. Unlike before the light did not go out after restarting the engine. I read the codes using socket 3 on diagnostic unit A as according to my Haynes manual and got 141 (Faulty brake pedal position sensor, shorted to earth or supply) and 142(Faulty stop light switch, open circuit or short circuit). I cleaned the pedal sensor contacts at the servo unit and cleared the fault codes. There seemed little point in cleaning the stop light switch as I assume if that were faulty then I would not be getting brake lights, which I am. On restarting the engine, there were no faults detected (1-1-1) but the ABS light was on. I drove off and at the 20mph ABS automatic check, the ABS light went out. Problem solved do you think?

hi the brake position sensor is an easy fix if you can solder, unplug it gently lift the circlip using a small flat head screwdriver and carefully keep hold and pull you will get a hiss of air as it empties the servo, hold on and pull keeping the o ring in place (or hunt under the damn car for half an hour!) then all you need do is carefully cut through the sealer holding the end with the contacts it is easy with a stanley blade then gently prise it open again easyish.
once opened you will more than likely find the circuit board broken off at the solder joints and resoldering and then resealing will fix it and save you about £160 (dont bother with the only ebay seller selling used as they do not work)
also brake light switch will def put light on even though brake lights work, its a 2 channel switch and 1 channel feeds brake light other is feed to abs module.
on autopsy of my brake light switch i found a contact missing absent from the abs side,id bet yours is the same.
ali express has the brake light switch and its cheap but dont do the other sensor.
i hope that helps.
