Default 244/245 door compatibility.

Hi guys i need some advice.

i have been offered a 1990 245 taxed and MOTd for dirt cheap, and i am thinking of using it for a donor car for my 254 project car.
mainly for the temporary engine and gearbox but also any other interchangeable bits...
which got me thinking about the doors.

i know it would look horrible, but could i take the doors off a 90s 245 and fit them to a 1979 244? that way i could still mot my 244 and drive it about whilst i work on repairing the original doors.
to my untrained eye it looks like volvo used the same doors on estates and saloons.

if this all works out well, i would end up with a lot of 245 parts that i have no use for. they will all be available for a time before i scrap the shell.

thanks!

I have a 77 245 and I have tried to fit later model (1980 on wards) doors onto mine. Yes the doors off a wagon will fit a sedan. But they did change the design of the door locks in 78 or 79 I think. And the shape of the door is different around the door lock as well. So I would have a good look at the door locks on both cars because you might be out of luck.

I was having a similar discussion with another forum member today, upon closer inspection my '79 has the same door locks as a later model.

I'm in the market for an OS rear door myself, bear me in mind!

I'm sure the doors changed with the wrap around rear lamps. If you have the old flat rear lamps then you will need the pillars from a later car to fit the later doors. I will be doing this to my 145 soon as the doors are shot and I have good later doors

That's not the case with mine.

I have flat rear lamps (245) and the latches appear to be in the same position as a later 244 (I think it's mid-80s)

I was speaking with Paul from Redhill who had the problem fitting doors to a car from 76/77

Obviously I can't guarantee that yours being a 79 and mine being a 79 means that you won't have the issue!

EDIT: I may also be interested in some other small spares, let me know if you end up buying please
