Default Looking - S40 but not T4

A friend of mine has asked me to have a look for a motor for him. As insurance is too high for a T4 he wants to go up to 1.8 so if anyone knows of any S40s around Yorkshire could you let me know. Cheers.

Don't discount the V40s, I was set on getting an S40 but im so glad I got a V40 instead, they are the same size just with more boot room and better all round visability as it has extra windows lol just an idea if they can't find an S40.

If you're going up to 1.8, look out for which engine - I'm lead to believe that the 1.8 GDi (which I understand is a Mitsubishi unit??) is not compatible with the increased levels of ethanol which will be added to unleaded petrol over the next couple of years. It's being increased from 5% to 10% and Volvo have said that the 1.8 GDi is NOT capable of running on this much ethanol.

In terms of insurance i found it quite a nice surprise with the volvos because dispite only being 20 years old i can insure a 2.0t for only 40 quid a year more than 1.8 and the 1.6 was more expensive.. go figure

Same here. A T4 for me at 21 was only £200 ish more than my 1997 1.4i Corsa B.....Given the difference in performance (90hp to 200hp) I was shocked that that was it...I don't understand how they work out their prices??

If insurance is an issue I would go for the 2.0T, that was only around £80 more than my corsa and has the best MPG of all the petrols, at least that's what I've heard....

Lol, Well, as said, it's what I heard....

My T4 can be pretty good on fuel when I remember how to be economical in it so I can't see why the 2.0T wouldn't be better?

Do you do city driving all the time?

Used to have a 2.0T myself - it was woeful on fuel. Lucky if I could get 28mpg out of it most of the time. Best it ever did was 40mpg but that was on a 300 mile motorway journey, but that was pure fluke.

As for the insurance, don't bet on it being much cheaper than a T4 depending upon where you are in the country.
