PHEV pre-heater power draw
Does anyone know the power draw in kW of the electric pre-heater in XC60/90s whilst the car is plugged in?

depends on how cold the car is and if you have seat heating on etc. but it is hard to say as its behaviour has changed, it used to go full bore
but you can see a preheat here, kicks off at 530 til 7 using ~300w, then goes 3.6kw for ~45mins. Typically only costs 2-3kw.

I’ve used it recently when temp at 5degrees early morning. Drew 1.5kwh. I use Octopus Go and set it as part of the intelligent charge. So even though the precondition was timed for 10am it still only cost 7.5p per kWh. Well worth the 10p and I’m sure it extended range by a few miles so possibly cost neutral. I’m sure more technically minded contributors will be able calculate it. Nice and toasty inside- most important!!

I'm on Octopus Intelligent Go but still awaiting my new plug-in XC60.
The off-peak period ends at 05:30 so if you set pre-conditioning in the car for 10:00 wouldn't it draw power from the grid at the peak rate of 29.5p? Unless of course you'd disconnected the charger in which case it would draw from the car's battery (in effect at 7.5p) but in doing so reduce the range?

Your charger will need to be one of the three that share data with Octopus- details on their site. Being sceptical I Checked with Octopus as I thought as you. They confirmed that provided you set precondition as part of charge then a departure time outside off peak tariff then it will be charged at low rate.

Thanks for that. I have an Ohme Pro charger so that should work as you described.
