Default which oil

I soon need an oil change on my 1.9d.
I do most of my trips on open road (probably 75%), not highways
Climate is very mild here, no zero temps almost ever.
Was wandering what is better to use 10w/40 or 5w/40 in such conditions?

Regardless of use, 5w40 is better than 10w40. Both are same viscosity when hot, but 5w will circulate quicker when cold. (Both are significantly thinner when hot than 5w cold, so if anybody comes along and says 5w is 'too thin' that is total nonsense!)
This is scientific fact not opinion, just saying that because lots of folk think the old wives tales they've heard down the pub are gospel...
Plus 5w40 is usually fully synthetic, 10w40 is usually semi synthetic. Fully is better than semi, again, some people think some engines 'need' semi, which, again, is nonsense.

Thanks Andy!
Will use 5w/40 then.
I asked a colleague who had a laguna with 1.9dci and he said he used 5w/30 but also mentioned this was due to having dpf on his car

Yeah, thats down to saps. You can get mid saps 5w40 but its less commonplace than C3 5w30.
10w40 is ok.
If yours is the renault F9Q engine, Shell Helix Ultra 5w40 (or the Pennzoil version) works really well.
