Driver's Door Lock
My driver's door lock has failed. Key won't turn the lock. A check shows one of the levers has failed, locking in the up position and preventing the cylinder from rotating.
Have tried WD40 and will test tomorrow morning. But.... If this doesn't work can I swap the passenger and driver's door locks round? Issues I can see are losing the central locking, and the ability to lock the passenger door from the outside. Neither worry me. Looks like I'll have to remove the plastic mouldings that match the lock to the door rods. Any thoughts anyone? R |

Door locks.

Strip the inner panel off, remove the whole locking mechanism, remove barrel "carefully" watch the springs, clean the levers and springs, light oil, and replace in correct sequence. Or, go to Volvo dealer, get new barrel, and set levers to your key, (levers in original lock should be numbered, just follow the pattern, in the correct order) rebuild the mechanism, reinstate all, including panels, but check the key will operate the new barrel prior to refit. (You will have spare levers left over) It's easy enough. Did both drivers door and steering column. Regards Malky |
