Default Fault code EFI 716 717 on a V70tdi 1998

I have a V70 tdi 1998 that has a intermittent fault which it has had for a while
but has been getting worse recently. It will stall on me while driving. I'm never sure when it will happen? When this happens emission light comes on and I've had the fault code EFI 716 and 717 Has anyone else had these codes and had to deal with similar problem????

EFI 716 refers to fuel quantity signal and EFI 717 comes back as MFC position transmitter , which is all i can find at present . Personally i would change fuel filter , no matter how recently it was done .

Try these people they are fairly close to you

Default Fuel pump

Many thanks for your reply. I've certainly had fuel filter changed in the past and the fault still has occurred. At the moment it seems like this is a problem with the fuel pump? Its a costly job to have reconditioned and fitted. Around £700. If this isn't the intermittent fault its a very costly job! I'll certainly contact the company you mentioned see what they think.

just a stupid idea that leapt into my head , it may be your stop solenoid loosing the power to keep it open & it cuts the engine as it closes . If you stand looking at the injection pump the solenoid is fitted on top of the rusty section where the injector pipes are fitted , make sure the lead is tight & getting a constant 12 volts . daft but it could be as simple as that

keep us posted

716 is the sensor in the top of the pump IIRC

I've taken it back to garage and they will check solenoid. If that seems fine then it will be the fuel pump that will be sent off and reconditioned. Will certainly let you know how I get on and thanks for your advice. Much appreciated.

Hmmm if you can plug it in to vol fcr and read what the injection quantity is at idle when upto full operating temperature, I can tell you if it's knackered or just needs a slight adjustment.

Default Intermittent fault

The main problem with diagnosing this fault is its a intermittent. So the car runs fine and will simply cut out and stall, at any time in the journey. It used to be quite rare for it to do it but over time its become more and more often to a point where it can be up to once a week. The strange thing is that once I've pulled over it will start up straight away and I can drive off?
The solenoid plunger has now been removed so I'm going to see if that will eliminate the fault?

Ok see how it goes without the plunger. If it hasn't fixed it, post up that number I mentioned.

Default Seems to fixed!?!

Ok, so far the car hasn't staled! As its a intermittent fault I'm not going to get too excited. I have some long runs coming up and that will test if its been fixed.
If its fixed it I'll certainly let you know as I wouldn't want anyone have to deal with this problem.
