Those 2006/07 D5s are another £200 a year road tax and maybe that’s why several are hanging fire on auto trader. Some posts on here suggest the PDF can block on these if not motorway driven. Only thing going for them is superior gearbox and AWD . I’m still debating whether to go for the Euro 3 D5 from 2004/5.
You could get a slightly later model and avoid the higher emission band if you want the newer engine and transmission. (or go manual transmission. but not a T3) Like I said before the DPF has never been an issue on the XC90. In my experience it was always a sensor, never the DPF.

I drove a 2003 XC90 for 10 years without issue. I did have the splined sleeve changed for the new improved one as a precaution. There are loads of old XC90's around here going strong. There are high milers on the forum with over 300 k on the clock.

Good luck.

Roy

I have a 26 month old Volvo XC90. 2 days ago the engine warning light came on and I drove to the Volvo service centre. I was informed that the DPF needs to be completely changed as it is "cracked" is this something any body has encountered? They are asking me for €2200 to get this replaced which I am.of course contesting. How does a DPF crack ? I would be interested in hearing if any other owners have had the same issue

A DPF or any part of the exhaust system can crack through rust / age / vibration / metal fatigue / accident damage / hitting something on the road / something on the road hitting it (stone) / driving over a ridge (curb).

You can best determine what caused the damage by lying on the ground under the car with a torch and looking at the crack.

Yes, DPFs are expensive.
