1984 240 DL auto for sale
This isn't mine, but I've been contacted by the owner of this 1984 240 DL saloon, and asked if I'd put a note about the car on here. He is looking to sell the car.
The car has the 2.1 litre engine and an automatic gearbox. Burgundy red coachwork. There are just under 112,000 miles on the clock. I understood that the car's headgasket has failed, and it's possible that the head will need to be skimmed. The MOT has just expired today, and so the purchaser will need to arrange collection. The car is located in Northumberland. Good 240s seem to be appreciating in value very well, with prices for some topping the £4000 mark. They are sturdy, well-engineered cars, generally very straightforward to work on, and overall an excellent DIY proposition. The vendor's asking price is £1195. He tells me that the car is generally in pretty good shape, but of course it's currently off the road and undoubtedly needs some work. I've not seen the car and so a prospective purchaser will need to make arrangements to view. For someone searching for a 240 project this could well be worth a look. If you're interested please send me a PM and I'll put you in touch with the present owner. Thanks Cheers Jack |

There have been quite a few views of the original post but no enquiries, so this is an unashamed effort to bump the OP back up the listenings a bit!

Hi Jack
I looked at the ad a while ago, thought about posting then decided not to... Reason being I would only offer this advice: That price is about right for the car without a blown head gasket and with at least some MOT. As it is, it's probably worth about a 1/3rd of what you're asking... It's not a desirable spec, particularly low mileage or from the sounds of it in particularly good condition or cared for (HG failure is not the sign of a cared for redblock) Please take this as constructive criticism, either sort the issues and get good money or be prepared to keep it or take a hit. As always pictures will help immeasurably |

Thanks for the feedback. That's really helpful. As I say, it isn't my car, so I'll pass your comment on to the owner.

I've passed the comment about price to the owner of this 240, and he's decided to revise his asking price to £795.
If you're interested in becoming the proud new owner of a project 240 then please let me know by PM and I will put you in touch with the owner. Cheers Jack |

Any takers at £395? It'd be a shame if this was scrapped.
The owner of this 240 has been in touch to say that he's dropping his asking price to £395. It'd be a shame to see this old 240 head off the scrapyard.
If anyone is willing to consider it at this then please let me know, and I'll pass on your contact details to the vendor. Thanks Cheers Jack |

This looks now like a realistic prospect for anyone who can deal with the car not being road legal while it is sorted out. The real "purchase price" will be fixing whatever is found to be fixed. But have a good look at the body and if that is sound....then in this new price bracket....cushti....it can be recommissioned and live for ever!
In my opinion. . |

A last word - the car did eventually sell to a Volvo enthusiast, with the intention being to get it roadworthy again.
