Default Volvo 240 2.3L Auto for sale

Hi Everyone, I'm currently selling my 240 saloon. I've owned the car for just over 2 years and to be honest I love the car, but I have a more modern daily, and a recent marriage and now a house move means I could do with freeing up some money for the future. I am lucky to be in the financial position to keep the car if it doesn't get the money it deserves, however it would be a shame to let it sit in my garage doing nothing for the foreseeable future. I am prompted to make the sale mainly because the car has only covered around 30 Miles since the last MOT. The car has been on Ebay and Carandclassic for the past few months now and some of you may have seen it, I won't copy and paste the adverts though. Now that introduction is over I will move into the car.

The car is a 1985 Volvo 240 GL, 2.3 Automatic with overdrive.

The bodywork of the car is very nice and clean, however there have been touch ups in the past and I believe it has had the odd panel sprayed. When i purchased the car it was inspected for crash damage on these areas and all is fine. The paintwork still looks great in this respect. I took the bumpers off in the first summer i owned it and sanded them all down because although they looked great covered in boot polish they didn't quite measure up to the rest of the car. The bumpers look excellent but where they had been caught on the edges shows. I left this as is because I didn't want to reshape the edges of the bumpers out of filler. I painted the front splitter to match the body as I had seen this on other 240's and thought it looked great.

The interior is comfortable and clean for being sat in over 35 years. There is a tiny tear on the drivers seat and the foam is starting to look a little relaxed, however it is still very comfortable to sit in. The passenger seat and rear seats are excellent. The heated seats work as does the seat-belt safety warning. The carpets are not bad, but I think over the years the sun has bleached them, as where the car matts have been there is a noticeable shade difference. I would put a carpet cleaner to this, however now simply isn't the time of year and I think without some warm weather the interior would end up staying damp and more harm than good would be done. Unfortunately I started the car recently and the fan seems to have given up. An optimist or a crook would tell you it's probably a fuse (since this old car uses old school ceramic style fuses) but I would expect the motor has gone. The car still fills with warm air when driving, but the blower is dead. The odometer gear was broken when I first bought it so I fixed it asap, I wasn't too worried about this as I have a lot of old MOT's and history to verify the millage.

The engine runs very smoothly and there are no noises, rattles or knocks. I understand the cams can get noisy due to some sort of rubber O ring that sits atop the valve springs but this engine doesn't seem to show these symptoms. I recently replaced the water pump, hoses and coolant and I purchased these from Brookhouse Volvo spares. I also replaced the whole PCV system within the first week of buying the car as it only had 1 flame trap replacement in the history, the whole kit was a genuine volvo one. One bad point is the engine mounts aren't as youthful as they used to be, and the engine is a little wobbly on a cold start, especially if a lot of chocking is required. I had a word with the garage that I use regularly for jobs I cannot undertake myself as they are familiar with 240's, and they said that the engine is fine under load and normal driving conditions, so they aren't too bad but would need an eventual replacement. The exhaust system from the manifold down has been totally replaced with a new oem one.

The suspension brakes have been totally renewed up front, with EBC green brake pads and new discs. While I was there I also replaced the track rod ends and ballpoints. Slightly lower springs have been put on the front because I found it a bit 'boaty', I think it also looks better since the front and rear wheel arch gaps are uniform. The tracking was carried out after this.

Other things I've done is all new continental tyres with the best wet grip rating available for the car, a new battery, and it recently had a fair amount of dosh spent on welding where the sills had started to go and also where the floor had been damaged from some wally jacking it up in the wrong place. It has an MOT till October 2018 and it has 1 advisory for slightly worn top suspension mount rubbers (a pain as i could have replaced these when I did the springs.)

The car has a tonne of history and documentation, I have 1 full A4 folder and a smaller volvo service book. Included is the genuine service book and sales brochure.

I am Asking £2100 for the car, which is more than reasonable considering it's condition. I am open to sensible offers however any offers that leave me with no real room for negotiating will be outright declined. Viewing is very welcome, and I am very flexible with times and dates at the moment. Please contact me on 07543 844343 with any questions or if you want to see the car.

Edit: Some pics have some out really big for some reason, also the trim that has gone a grey colour has recently been repainted black.
