Default 1989 740 - B200e engine

Would anyone know whether a UK spec 1989 740 GL with B200E, K-jet fuel injection (i.e No Lambda Sond or Cat version) has an OBD lighthouse thingi on it so I can see if I have any fault codes which might help me bottom out our little problem (poor acceleration). If so where will I find it located.

Thanks

Andy

no there isn't i'm afraid. the only way to diagnose engine managment faults with these cars is with a multimeter at the ecu pins.there used to be a special breakout box you could connect between the pins of the ecu and the connector to give you access to the pins when live. mind you the ecu on your model is pretty basic as the fuel system is largely mechanical.reading the ecu values on these cars is really a last resort! there is usually a far simpler explanation for poor performance on this very reliable injection system. i'm afraid you'll have to do it the old fashioned way and start with checking the basics! make sure your ignition system is in top order before anything else. change your fuel filter and air filter as well. it might be a good idea to run an injector cleaner in your system for a day or so while you're at it just in case the injectors are dirty.
if none of this makes a difference let us know and i'm sure myself or someone else will be able to help.

Thank you for your reply. I looked all over for a black 1 1/2 x 3/4 inch socket with 5 or 6 pins in but could not find anything.

I am starting at the basics and working through. The fuel filter was replaced in accordance with Volvo's mtnce schedule at 48k and again at 97k. We are now at 123k and I would not have thought that this would be an issue. I have been told by Volvo that I can expect to get at least 60k out of the filter but I suppose it could become blocked prematurely.

A new air filter is going in, the old one has done about 12k miles and is due for changing as part of the routine service. The current one is dirty but I do not think it is that bad to cause this problem. I have tried running without the filter but matters did not improve.

I will try a can of Fortune injectior cleaner, someone else has also suggested this. At the very least it may rule out that avenue at relatively low cost.

Thanks for your support.

The box you refer to is located on the left hand strut tower. It has a wire and pin which can be plugged into either pin 2 or 6. For how to read codes see the Brickboard FAQs on this website.

Your car should have Bosch LH 2.2 or 2.4 Fuel injection, not K-jet.

All the best, Peter.

G'Day Peter

Many thanks for this.

Still can not locate the little box.

The Owners Manwell says it is a CI fuel Injection system for the B200E so now I am completely confused. Is this in fact the K-jet system?

The engine number is: 000569 and VIN: 243681

B200E is for sure with K-Jetronic mechanical fuel injection. it has no FI ECU and no OBD socket. to be 100 percent sure check the added picture. is your engine sth like this?

the B200E definately has bosch k-jetronic injection. LH 2.2 was fitted to B200/B230F engines with a catalytic convertor
