Default Bloody Potholes

Im sick to death of Potholes. I was almost wiped out the other night because of a stupid pothole down a country lane where it was just over the crest of a small hill. Hit the thing square on the front offside tyre and 'BANG'. Straight away I knew it was game over. Though to be fair on Volvo the car handled amazingly seeing as its such a powerful and heavy car.

Pulled over at the next available and safe location, where ever that is down a single track one-way road in the middle of nowhere. With no streetlights and got out to find the front offside tyre was completely ruined.

Attempted to use the liquid spare tyre that volvo supply but was pointless, may as well just remove it from car, it didnt actually do anything, the liquid didnt expand or anything. Admittedly the tyre was FUBAR however would have at least expected the liquid to expand and fill the tyre, NOPE. Had to wait for RAC who arrived within the hour and took me home.

New tyre cost me £200 straight. Funnily enough Ive written to the Council and given them a huge file of costs and photos for my compensation.

Seriously so dangerous. I went back today to measure the pothole to find it was a pothole inside a pothole. Deepest pothole measured 18" wide, 30" long and 4 1/2" deep. The outside of the pothole was 90" long, 18" wide and 1" deep.

SO ANNOYED. Glad it didnt ruin the 18" Middir Alloys or I would have been down the Town Hall today, haha.

Anyone else had any horror stories with these deathly potholes??????

I do have pics but sadly they are 7 mb's in size and way over the forum limit.

Every sympathy with you. We have some monsters up in Northumberland and I have come close to your scenario on a few ocassions. I believe the score is that if the hole has been previously identified and then not repaired then you have a very strong case. I wish you luck with it.

Interesting to hear your bad experience with the can of goo. I thought it is just there to seal the hole, you then pump up the tyre using a compressor. I don't think it is supposed to reinflate the tyre. Apologies if I have got the wrong end of the stick there.

Can you reduce the file size of the picture? Try emailing it to yourself and accept the option to reduce the picture size. You should be able to get it down then to a reasonable size.

same with me, hit a pothole, new tyre then nudged the kerb which was cracked and had a sharp projection of concrete sticking out and again new tyre - fortunately no damage to alloys but expensive driving lately. Seems the councils are only patching potholes here and there until funding comes into place.

We say it only damages the tyre but it can also buckle the wheel on the inner rim.

I've become an ace at playing "dodge the pot hole" but this adds to the stress and sometimes you haven't got room to dodge them.

They've begun filling them in around my way and some have required temporary traffic lights whilst being repaired.

I suppose the council tax will go up next time to pay for it all
