The SE had a worsening shake through the steering under braking, I'm thinking a warped brake disk, and as I want to upgrade the brakes on the t4 anyway I'll do it the cheap way and out the t4 disks and pads on it today, once the hangover clears, it was the grand reopening of the local pub last night, ow my head lol.

Cambelt replacement time! Along with the alternator belt which looked like it was on its last legs.
All taken care of by David Pengelly Autocare in Nottingham - decent service at a decent price.

Learnt that the garage door at my new place takes longer to open than I thought. Anyone know what to google for the washer nozzle? Can only seem to find front ones...
Broke the aerial as well.... |

I never got the brake swap done last weekend as the ground was wet, the t4 had 2 flat tyres and the jack wouldn't go under it anyway, plus the battery was dead, so with the sealey jump pack borrowed from work I awoke it from it's slumber this evening, if only to stick some air in the tyres and turn it round so the front end is on concrete so it can be jacked up, and things are a bit odd...
Last time I started the t4 it basically ran like ****e, huge misfires all over the place on idle, kind of like old cars where you forget to push the choke in or it has some mental camshaft in it, and utterly hopeless at actual movement, had to tease the revs up to over 2500 rpm before the thing would stop hesitating enough to even move 3 feet without it sounding like it was going to cut out, so imagine my surprise today when I jumped it, it fired up instantly and ran absolutely perfectly, 100 yards up the road normally, the 100 yards back with a heavy foot, with the full expectation of pops farts and no thanks, but nope, instant 18 psi of boost and torque steery joy, weird, but good haha

Got the brake swap done yesterday afternoon, the brakes were initially crap but after a few sharp braking manoeuvres from 60 down to 20 they've bedded in nicely, pulls up nice and straight without a single shake or wobble anywhere, and how did the car repay me for this fine work you may ask? It broke down.
Started, spluttered, stopped, it did this a few times, then just turned over and over, so I disconnected the MAF and tried it again, ran, wouldn't rev properly, eventually died down and cut out, so plugged the MAF back in and the same again, but now the engine cooling fan is permanently on with the ignition off and the keys out, won't stop until I put the ignition back on again, hmm, well it can't be fuel related can it as the trip says 30 miles to go and the low fuel light isn't even on yet, wrong, was out of fuel, whacked a can full in and fired up right as rain, EML illuminated though so a trip to work to search and destroy the codes with the icarsoft thing they have, 2 codes relating to the MAF, 2 relating to cam position sensors and 2 I can't remember, all cleared, normality restored.

And now it's developed an exhaust blow from the front, where the mid section joins the cat, the exhaust clamp is seized solid and only one side will loosen, tapping the clip along a bit and also rotating it 90 degrees so it clamps down in a different position hasn't made any difference so I'm going to have to do it the long winded way, split the system at the back box, remove the centre section completely, clean everything up, fresh paste and a new clamp, I'm armed with the new clamp and some paste, plus a new gasket for the rear joint as they never seal again after being apart, I do have a welder now too, so I may chop the rear box off and use the twin exit stainless one I have left from the orange car, the one th SE is currently wearing is what I believe to be a 1.8 box, as it's only a single exit oval, the 2l is meant to be a twin.

Well, as always, that didn't go to plan at all did it, the centre section slid off the cat beautifully, and then...
The 3 bolts holding the rear section to the centre section predictably wouldn't undo, one is unreachable with a grinder due to the fuel tank, and even with the car as high as it will go on axle stands there wasn't enough height available to twist the 2 sections together into a position where I could get a grinder in on the 3rd bolt, so I cut my losses and chopped the rear box off as close as possible to the silencer for welding based reattachment later on. Once the box was off it was evident that whatever is in there is goosed as it sounds like it's full of gravel when you shake it, so I decided to use the stainless item I mentioned earlier, but first it was time to clean and reassemble the front joint after chopping the 3 bolts and splitting the joint, good old grinder chopped through the bolts in seconds. Evidently the middle section wasn't ever fitted as it should be previously as the joint was only pushed together barely an inch due to the mark on it, not even half way down the flare, lots of paste, precision rubber hammery and new clip on, all good, not a hint of a leak and due to the centre section being an inch further forward now it actually fits the floor of the car better now. The hanging points on the aforementioned stainless box were wrong, so I chopped those off the old back box and fitted everything loosely, then grabbed the trusty mig so I could tack the hangers into place, then take it off the car and weld it all up properly, before another test fit and tack the pipework side of things to again remove, weld properly and then the final fit, well, I got the hangers tacked and one of them welded fully, then the welder started spitting and being rubbish, gas has run out. I'll shoot to the motor factors sans rear box for some more and complete in the morning.

Finally sorted, some of the wadding had started to come out of the stainless box I mentioned, it was like a wizards hat, I just kept pulling and pulling, I don't think there's any acoustic material left in there anymore, oh well, a nice little burble on idle and at lower revs with a little pop on the over run, not noticeably louder at higher rpm and thankfully no droning, sadly no rasp but you can't have everything.
