Default Different Turbo options

Hi folks.

What can i install in place of my damaged TD04HL-13G turbo unit for my 1996 Volvo 855 AWD 193bhp car (B5254T Engine)?

What other options are there for me?

currently taking it out of the car and wondering if i should have it rebuilt or go for something more interesting?

Cheers

Bren

You can replace it with any turbo

If you want a straight swap look for other Volvo turbos, just has to have the same exhaust housing, straight flange, conical flange or angled flange

I wouldn't go overboard on the size, a 15g or 16t at most

cheers for that info

when you say "any turbo" does that mean if i have (which i have sitting in the garage) a KO3s Turbo from an Volkswagen, that it should work, if it fits? Curious - as it allows upto 260bhp when remapped... could be a cost saving venture if so..

Yes, any turbo at all will fit

Whether it is suitable for your engine is another matter

It may also require a lot of custom fabrication

It would be much more sensible to go with a Volvo turbo. I am 99% sure you need a straight flange turbo, I would suggest a 15g or 16t

Make sure you get new copper washers for the banjo bolts and a new oil return seal (possibly new oil return pipe)

I would also service the prop and transfer box while you are in that area

Prop servicing:

Unbolt either end and centre support

Check the centre bearing for play, if it has play I would send it away for refurb

CV joints remove, clean, regrease and ready to refit the prop

Transfer box, remove, drain oil, check input and output shaft seals, replace if necessary, refill with oil and refit.

The sleeve from the gearbox output to the transfer box input could be worn as could the transfer box. Two options here, replace both or weld the sleeve to the transfer box input shaft
