Unhappy V40 Auto- loss of tranny fluid.

Hi guys, 1997 V40 1.8. Auto.
Disaster or not?? Approaching home after a long trip. Couple of miles from home I noticed gears slipping on inclines. Steep incline to house but managed to get it home. Was late so left it till this morning. Checked transmission fluid level—none visible.
Checked underneath and eventually found split in rubber hose that connects gear box pipe to oil cooler. Looks like it’s turned very brittle. Tried to move the car to a more out of the way position. Did just move but lots of slipping in gear box. Question is, is it worth replacing the hose and filling up with new tran fluid or is it a truck to the automobile grave yard? What do you think? All opinions much appreciated.

You might be lucky and not burnt the hell out of the clutches.
Potentially its a transmission swap, so it might be worth giving it a go and seeing what happens. Be prepared to flush the trans thru with fluid after a short while if it still works.

Ultimately, how good is the condition of the car... that would be the clincher... if its a bit of a nail, break it for parts and buy another that works.

Thanks Doc,
Just spent a wad renewing whole exhaust, discs and pads all round. Bits of rust starting to show but otherwise not bad for age. Like the car been a good friend so will have to think carefully bout this.

Gatos might have a spare trans lying around in his pile of bits if your one is shot...
