Thumbs down 2003 Limp mode + Engine service req?

Dad bought a 2003 xc90 D5 a few months ago. Needed a little work done.
Got it through the mot, service and a good look over.

Now the limp mode part..

Car is fine until you hard accelerate and the speed is past 40mph.
Limp mode - almost no acceleration and 'Engine service required' pops up.
If you turn car off and back on it resets.

After he bought the car I did look around and found a volvo packet under the seat with speed sensor on the packet?

Ive looked around at the engine, pipes and turbo and see nothing.
Ive tried unplugging the tcv and this made no difference (Done this on my v50 and it wont rev by 3k but the xc90 acts normal?)

I have a mac code reader and taken 3 codes:
P0244 - Turbo Wastegate A Solenoid Range/ Performance (Confirmed)
P0089 - Fuel Rail / System Pressure - Too Low (Pending)
P0102 - Mass Or Volume Air Flow A Circuit Low Input (Pending)

Anyone have an idea?

Going to volvo is last resort..... I am trying to source a copy of Vadis also.

Thanks for your time.

Fuel filter blockage ... fairly common on the D5's

Inexpensive and worth changing.

Hope it helps

Think you might have a few problems - but neither likely to be drastic.

With regard to fuel pressure, as the other chap said fuel filter is first step

With regard to turbo pressure - check all vacuum hoses (turbo, turbo control valve behind starter, engine mounts etc.) The turbo control valve can fail and cause this, the new Volvo part is extortionately expensive (£120+) for what it is so would suggest getting one from a breakers to try.

I've fixed turbo control valves before by gently taking them apart and cleaning them.

A new fuel filter is never a bad thing and it's a cheap starting point. Only use genuine Volvo or Bosch, Mann or Hengst aftermarket.
Because you have a MAF code though and the Turbo Wastegate code, you need MAF live data using your reader, so get the grams per second (g/s) figure at idle, then 1,2,3 and 4k revs when stationary and post up the results.

Thanks for the replies.

Car got serviced with decent parts... All Mann and Castrol oil. Have checked all vac pipes and engine pads and they all seem good. Taken a few vac pipes off the now to check if there is any leaks.

Cleaned out both tcv's with carb cleaner and compressed air supplied via my compressor.

Hopefully return with the g/s figures tomorrow.

Thanks again.

Trying to put the vac pipe back onto the actuator on the turbo but can get it because the access is not the best. Do I need to drop the engine a few inch to gain access?
Got sore hands trying to fit them into silly small gaps
