[GUIDE] Black box location on our cars (S40/V50/C30)

Today, I finally got round to removing the black box that was fitted to my car in 2015, as I suspected it might be leeching power and I wanted it out of my car anyway.

I had some trouble understanding RS Fleet's instructions about where it was located (they originally said by the driver's knee - it was nowhere near the driver's knee..).

I would suspect that black box installers would tend to install them in the same place for the same cars, so for the benefit of any V50/C30/S40 owners with a black box in their car here's where it was on mine:

Under the driver's side "kick plate" trim and carpet
- This is the trim you see when you open the driver's door and look down, partially covering the rubber seal
- Remove it by using a trim tool to pop it up, there's about 3 plastic clips along the bottom and 1 clip where it goes up and meets the steering column side trim
- Black box is then under the carpet and held in with 2 phillips screws and a neat electrical connector (see photos)

As a precaution I disconnected the car battery while doing this and put some electrical tape over the remaining electrical connector afterwards.

Got me interested just for the fact I have no clue what it was :P Thats an aftermarked device, right? what does it do?

Insurance black box, tracks your location, speed and time. Had a black box insurance policy in 2015-2016 and finally got round to removing it last weekend

My Daughters Twingo has a Black Box but it was fitted inside the steering column shroud!
