An impressive amount of things covered with the Volvo warranty which is good to see and somewhat justifies the cost.

The amount of problems you've had is worrying though.

The warranty used to only cover oil leaks if they required a major component to be removed in order to fix them but it was changed this year to cover ALL oil leaks
Depends if it's nearside or offside as the labour varies quite a lot apparently (or did on the V40).

I was also shocked to hear that if they lose any gearbox oil when removing the driveshaft, they tip it back in

Unfortunately, oil leak still present so waiting for the dealer to call me back ...

I would agree that the number of issues is worrying after just over 6 years and 90k miles. Just glad I had warranty as the cost of it is less than the boot strut replacement let alone the rest of the work I've had done

The only question is what to do after 100k miles as Volvo don't offer warranty renewals after that.

I'm happy with the car but may look for something more economical next year. Thinking of a V60 T6 PHEV as the boot is just as big. Economy is very appealing provided I can get a home charger and run on battery for most of my commute

So, final update - hopefully!

Leak was traced back to the replacement angle gear gearbox. Seems there was manufacturing damage with a score on a seal face that was causing an oil weep.

Not sure why this wasn't found on the first occasion especially when I specifically said this had started when the angle gear was replaced.

So, end result is another new angle gear gearbox!

Can you add a Volvo warranty at anytime or does it need to have been continuously covered from day 1?

My XC60 came from a dealer almost a year ago, with a Volvo warranty. They have just sent me a letter asking if I want to renew it for £757. The letter says "you can't buy cover after this date" (the date being the expiry of the warranty which came with the car).

Funnily enough i have just been sent a letter as well.

I can get gold cover from warranty direct for £430 a year, where as the volvo warranty is £607 a year.

Warranty direct seem to cover everything but have a £250 excess.

Does any one know if the volvo warranty has an excess? I can't find in anywhere on the web site?

Ive had the car a year and have had to use the warranty once for a split a/c hose, but apart from that no issues.

No excess on the Volvo warranty that I have and it covers much more than warranty direct will ever e.g. boot struts, broken springs

It might be expensive but I think it's been worth it although disappointing that I've needed it in the first place

I've just downloaded the policy guide from their warranty website, as I need to decide in the next week or so whether I'll extend the warranty which came with the car, and it still says "the rectification of any oil leaks (unless the removal of a major unit is required)" is NOT covered. Maybe you were lucky?!!
