Lightbulb Rear bumper trim fitment

The rear bumper trim - when I bought the car it, the body coloured part which is missing in the pictures was easily knocked off when rummaging through the boot - are there any fixings that should be used?

It looks like someone's used silicone sealer or tiger seal or something to refit the rear bumper, and which there's load of holes which look ready for trim clips in the top of the bumper, there doesnt look like any for the crash bar. The same for the trim. Should the trim just sit on top and slide towards the body and down? I think the excess sealant is making it hard to refit.

Is there any more to it than that though, just a push friction fit?

I'm also interested as my front bumper trim is beat to pieces - wondering how easy/fragile it is to replace or fix.

A long long time ago (maybe 1999/2000 ?!) I fitted 960 chrome strips to my 940 GLE bumpers. As I say, its a long time ago, but if I recall correctly, it was clipped into place with some small metal spring clips. I know that I replaced both front and rear bumper trims in a morning, and I remember thinking how easy it was. In fact, I think I did the door trims as well in that time.

Very vague sorry, but I hope that helps reassure you a bit

EDIT -

Just did a quick image search and found this. There seem to be two small spring clips at either end of the trim, but the rest is just slotted into the bumper moulding clips. This is the front bumper, but the rear is the same... I think

RollingThunder - thats fantastic thanks, much more reassuring! Are those clips what are shown as items 9 and 10 in the diagram? There's a couple on the bumper at the moment, I just assumed there'd be a lot more.

Thanks!

I have an estate bumper hanging on the garage wall, I'll have a look when I get home how many clips hold it on.

There are 6 number 9 clips, two on the side and one at the very start of the straight middle part and then there are 6 number 11 clips holding on the middle part of the straight.
