Default Turn off service light

I didn't get my V40 serviced by a Volvo garage and now the service light is still on. I Googled this and was given a way to turn it off myself by holding down the odometer then turning the ignition on for 30 secs. I have tried this several times and it doesn't work. Is there any way I can turn the light off myself before the next service?

I've done mine for a few years now, but never manage to get it just right first time. keep trying. The timing has to be perfect.

If it's a phase one the procedure won't work regardless. You need a tool available from Draper or I do lend mine out. Ask if you need more details

If it's '96 to '99 you'll need to visit the main dealer. I always call to them a few minutes before lunch and catch the parts manager before he goes out the door. It only takes a couple of seconds to reset it with the Volvo tool
If it's '99 to '04 you should be able to reset it by holding in the trip counter.

My V40 TDi is S reg. Don't know what year that is or what phase. Is it £80 to turn the light off at a Volvo dealer?

S reg is 98-99 so it won't work. You'll need to either visit a main dealer or there's special tools out & about on the market to reset the light (I've got to find one myself).
