Default S40 Door Lock Problem

I am having a problem with the lock on the drivers door and would appreciate any advice you might have.

Some background : During the recent cold spell i left my car running in the morning to clear off the ice. I would lock the drivers door with my spare key to stop it being nicked.

Since then i have noticed that the button for the drivers door wasnt popping up when the door was unlocked. I didnt pay much attention to it as it didnt appear to cause any problems. Yesterday i discovered that not only was the button not popping up on open but that the door wasnt being locked at all. Even if i lock it with the key it doesnt lock.

Anybody have any ideas as to how to investigate the problem myself? Is it straightforward to take off the door card and take a look at what is happening internally?

Sounds like the control rods have popped out of their locations. As you say, you'll need to remove the door card to get a better look.

Cheers. I'll give that a go later.
