C30 ecu

Hi all,
It is a long story but I was sold a 2008 Diesel C30 back in June that has caused no end of issues. Volvo have now told me that it needs and new ECU (or ECM they use it interchangeably) and advised me not to spend the money on it considering what the car cost (£4450) and what I have already spent (£1500). I am raising a court case to attempt to get the money back from the dealer but I am concerned that they will disappear and i will be stuck with this car that doesn't go very far and needs over £1000 of work to get it sorted.

I spoke to Volvo and they advised against buying an ECU online as it is a minefield getting the correct one because it comes down to more than model number. I have seen a few recon places but my ECU has been "tampered" with in the past and has been sealed with slicon gel, I would be concerned that it can't be reconditioned and I would have wasted the money.

Are they any reliable options open to me to get a new ECU for quite a bit less that the £900 it will cost at Volvo?

ECUs are car VIN specific they hold the Immobiliser codes …

Your car is old enough now that plenty of breakers have them.
Its not unsual for them to sell complete ecu, clocks, cem and key (whatevers needed)
For the price of it, would be worth a shot.

that may have been the case 15 years ago but not with this range of cars

thanks for editing your offensive reply ..

well if you are going to all that trouble and expense of basically fitting your bodyshell around a full set of components from another car it's going to work ... but there will be problems unless you change ALL the modules , for example I see no door modules or SRS module there .. a big risk , it would have been cheaper to have got the car fixed properly in the above owner's case ...

I edited it from BULL to rubbish because...

Get with the times, this can easily be done, and the door modules and srs module will work and can be coded if required later when the cars up and running.

You are right though, £900 at Volvo is not to bad, and is the safest option
