Default I think my Auto box just died!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The wife called me - a loud screeching noise as soon as trying to pull away.

In neutral revving engine its not there, tried reverse the same. tried manual changing the same. Car left at side of road.

****

In the two years I've owned this car it's been the most expensive vehicle i've ever owned something is always breaking on it.

I did the box oil flush about a year ago.

Any suggestions before I tow it to my local gearbox indy?

Thanks

Any oil in the gearbox? you are not sure whats wrong at the moment , it could be a driveshaft problem for example ...

Yes I'm at work worrying about a huge bill whilst the car is near home with the wife. I'm jumping the gun.

I will check out the discs/ driveshafts/engine mounts - would be a great result if it was.

When I've towed it back home and on the level I can check the oil level.

Then I'll report back.

Good news

Nothing wrong with gearbox - panic over :-)

A stone had wedged itself between the brake disc and dust cover.

Volvo is a great car, but it has cost a lot of money to fix in two years.

Thanks for your input.

Was the wife panicking ? A stone wouldn't have caused loss of drive ?

I didn't say there was a loss of drive.

the sound when moving off was a loud screeching grinding sound. She was concerned that driving on would damage the car so she parked it.

Anyone who has had a stone lodge against a brake disc will tell you how noisy it can be.

It was only my wallet that was panicking

I thought this "In neutral revving engine its not there, tried reverse the same. tried manual changing the same. Car left at side of road." referred to a loss of drive combined with the dramatic title.

Glad its sorted.
